What does sentimental mean to you?
Are you ever sentimental about something?
I think, sentiment is something that we all experience differently.
Being sentimental is to meet again sweetly with that specific something out of the past.
Something that awakens nostalgic, tender and affectionate emotions deep down in your heart, that you cannot explain.
Whether it was the moment, or the person. The time or the place. It is something that you cannot share and no one will understand.
The things that we are sentimental about is something out of the past, that we will never have, or experience again. We will never be able to get it back.
Sometimes there are things that we can keep and hold on to, that will bring back memories of that time, person or place.
Most of the times it is something that we cannot use anymore, but don’t want to throw away or let go.
Like broken toys, or old ruined pictures, clothes and scrap things.
What if you can make something or recycle your memories so that you can enjoy it everyday?
Recycle an old table cloth
The other day my sister gave me a torn crochet tablecloth.
It was the tablecloth my grandmother had on her coffee table when we were little.
Because it was torn, my sister couldn’t use it but also did not want to throw it away as it was still pretty.
So while looking at this piece – we all got that sentimental feeling of this memory from when we were kids.
In the end – I made small zipper bags and sewed pieces of this table cloth onto it.
My mother and all four our kids got one.
Now – we all have a piece of this memory that we can use and enjoy every day.
A little bag for anything……or almost anything
Recycle your memory scraps and pieces to fix something
This was a wedding gift. A salad bowl I used for 15 years.
A small accident happened and it was ready to go to the dump.
I had some pieces of pretty crochet work from my husband’s and my own family that was too pretty to keep in the cupboard.
I glued the piece of glass back in it’s place and used modge podge to glue the lace on.
Make sure to cover it well with the modge podge.
Clean the glass in-between where possible en let it dry well.
Clean the modge podge on the glass afterwards with furniture polish.
Place on a safe spot in your house and use it everyday!
Memories on a handbag
This is a mix of linen (out of the sample books at the interior shop), denim pants and crochet work. (Also a gift from someone in the family.)
I made the bag first and then joined the crochet with small hand stitches.
Recycle your memories – make a fashion statement!
This was quite a fun project and when wearing it, it attracts lots of attention.
In winter it goes with tights, boots, a t-shirt and a scarf.
In summer it goes with tights, ballet flats and a t-shirt.
Denim is always easy to work with and comfortable to wear.
The heart in the middle is quilt fabric joined with a blanket stitch.
The crochet piece fits perfect on the pocket.
Revamped table cloth
This is also something out of my grandmother’s house.
It was always on the dining table.
I joined it with small hand stitches on burlap and now it has a whole different look to it.
Even the cat thinks so…….
Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment
until it becomes a memory
So why not create a new moment with a memory?
But whatever you do with your things you keep for sentimental moments, use them and enjoy them.
This will keep it close to your heart.
Please share this with your sentimental friends!
