It is time for something with a cat again – something quick for a saturday afternoon.
A fresh idea to make a quick pencil bag from any left over fabric.
I used denim and did the three funny shaped cats with applique.
You can find a tutorial on how to do applique here.
This is how easy it is:
Take a measurement, more or less, of all your “tools” to get the size you need your bag to be.
Cut two pieces of the same size.
Be creative with your picture and detail. Use any method or idea.
Use informal hand stitches here and there and all over the cats for detail. No rules – be creative. It is your personalised bag!
When all the cat detail are finished, iron vilene on the back to make sure your pencils won’t get strangled in the handwork on the inside.
Overlock the top edge where the zip must be and iron the edge to make the sewing part easier.
Putting the right sides facing each other, sew from the side edges about 3cm inwards. Leave enough space for the zip opening to get all your “tools” easily in and out.
Pin the zip in the centre of the two folds.
Sew and secure it with the zip foot on your machine.
With the right sides facing each other again, sew the bag together.
(Remember to leave the zip half-open to make the turning, inside out, easier)
Overlock and turn it inside out.
