A fresh applique idea to expand the winter closet!
I had a piece of boring grey cotton lycra with a small daisy print. I did not want to use it as it was very dull. So I bought a bottle fabric duy and decided to make it maroon to match a piece of maroon tracksuit fabric. I had big plans for a mix and match set of clothes for Carla to wear this winter.
A perfect duy …………………but it came out purple.
The purple was very pretty and I decided to use it anyway.
I did 3 daisies with applique, but this time I finished it off with blanket stitch. I added a little writing with my embroidery machine and I made a whole new outfit.
You can find the tutorial on how to do applique here.
I don’t know much about dying fabric and using the ordinary dye powder from the chemist with no clue of what the composition of my fabric is……..well…….then I suppose any disaster can happen. But I was lucky and now Carla has something unique to wear this winter.
That is the fun of sewing and being creative. Sometimes a disaster can turn into something special.
This was just a simple applique idea – but your options are endless.
Hope you have fun
* There was 1 thing I have learned from dying fabric…..
The fixative for the dye is just an important as the colour itself.
Without it – the colour will fade drastically with every wash.
