This is an example of how you can create your own toy from a picture. (In this case – a monster from a picture)
You can create anything from a flat picture.
1 – Re-size the picture
2 – Cut it out on fabric
3 – Ad some detail
4 – Put stuffing in
Have your own creation toy!
I share with you a technique on how to make the eye lashes on the monster’s face with your machine:
This is the foot you need – called a ” tacking foot”
Take a scrap piece of fabric to practice first.
Loosen the upper tension on your machine.
Use top stitch cotton for a fuller thicker appearance.
Put your machine on a zig zag setting – the width must be as wide as possible.
This is what it looks like when sewing:
Remember that the cotton is sewn very loosely and you have to secure it afterwards with a straight stitch.
Look at the pictures where I made the eye. (I used felt for all the face detail)
The lashes was made with black cotton. I secured it with the white stitch line.
After securing it with a straight stitch, cut it at the back of the eye, next to the stitch line, to make the lashes as long as possible.
Now you can fill in the rest of the eye using more felt and your free hand embroidery foot.
The mouth and teeth are made of felt too. I just sewn over it with the free hand embroidery foot.
It is like colouring in a picture.
You can go wild and use your imagination with every picture.
A monster from a picture can be anything you imagine……..
Let me know where your imagination took you to…..
